Prop. G (Growth)
November 5th, 2024
What Is Prop G?
Proposition G is a twenty-five cent general revenue tax increase proposal that the Board of Directors of the Florissant Valley Fire Protection District have placed on the November 5th ballot.
Prop G (Growth) Frequently Asked Questions:
-
The increase in revenue will fund six new positions and three new leadership positions in our ambulance ranks.
Three new firefighter/paramedic positions will be added that will provide more staffing on apparatus in the near term and will be the first phase of personnel for a fifth ambulance in the future. We will also promote three new EMS leadership positions to assist our Chief Medical Officer with the daily operations of the ambulance service.
It will also allow us to promote a dedicated public education officer that will focus solely on building relationships in the community and providing a multitude of public safety programs and education opportunities.
This increase in revenue will allow us to promote a Deputy Chief of Training and Development. Currently, our training officer is on shift and this promotion will allow a dedicated officer to focus on all aspects of our training and development of our personnel.
Currently, we do not have an Assistant Chief. As our district has grown and our call volume has increased, this has created a ripple effect in all of our operations as well. This new revenue will allow us to promote an Assistant Chief of Operations that will allow other positions to focus on specific roles and responsibilities and not juggle many, creating more efficiency and consistency.

Now is the perfect and necessary time to ask to increase our revenue. In the last five and half years the fire district has added ten full-time positions to meet the increasing needs of the community. We did this by adding a fourth full-time, advanced life support ambulance to meet the increasing demand of calls for service from our community, which included the addition of 9 Firefighter/Paramedics. Additionally, we added a full-time inspector to our Fire prevention division. We did all of this without a tax increase.
Our call volume has increased on average annually 540 calls per year since 2014. This will see the fire district reach our largest year for calls responded to in 2024 of over 15,000 calls. The trend is showing this increased rate of annual calls to stay steady. To meet this need, we need more staffing at the bottom and top of our organization.

In 2014 our fire district responded to a total of 9313 calls for service. This includes EMS and fire calls. At that time we had three full-time ambulances, three fire suppression units and one Battalion Chief on duty everyday. We also had one Fire Marshall, one Medical Officer and the Fire Chief as well as two administrative office staff.
That model stayed the same until 2020 when we put on a fourth ambulance as a 40-hour per week unit at peak time hours. After two years it became apparent that we still were not able to meet the need for the increased number of calls for service that we were receiving. In 2022 the fourth ambulance was placed in service full-time, 24 hours per day.
Fast forward to 2023, we responded to 14,458 calls for service and still conducted at least 13,000 total hours of training and participated in 100’s of public relations events. This growth has pushed us to grow our deployment, administrative and development resources in order to remain current, well-trained and attentive to all of the needs the community has of us.
The predicted calls for service that the Florissant Valley Fire Protection District will respond to in 2024 is 15,260 calls. It is easy to see that demand for our services continues to increase, placing increased pressure on current staffing and administrative resources.
-
The current residential tax levy for the fire district is $1.27 for all funds. The current General Fund tax rate for residential properties is predicted to be $.70 cents for 2024 taxes.
-
The average price of a home in the Florissant Valley Fire Protection District in July 2024 is estimated to be $175,000. The estimated increased cost for a homeowner of a $175,000 home, if Prop G passes, will be $6.93 per month.
-
Shall the Board of Directors of the Florissant Valley Fire Protection District be authorized to levy an additional tax of not more than twenty-five cents on the one hundred dollars of assessed valuation to provide funds for the support of the district to increase staffing to meet current and future growth and service demands for fire and emergency services?
